A wrong-way driver crash in Connecticut on I-95 left one person dead and three with minor injuries.

The incident took place in New Haven County around 2:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, on I-95 on the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge (Q Bridge) southbound in New Haven, Connecticut State Police said.

An investigation found that a 2019 tow truck was south southbound on I -95 just north of Exit 48 in New Haven on the bridge when it was struck head-on by a 2015 Kia Optima driven by Jimmie Lee Wilson, age 41, of West Haven, who was driving the wrong way on the bridge, state police said.

State police said the Optima caught fire following the crash; Wilson was killed in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the tow truck and two passengers were transported to St. Raphael Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene and the crash is being investigated by the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Squad (CARS) Unit.
